Ceiling Fans Help Save Energy Costs in Winter

Everyone knows that ceiling fans can help you cut down on energy costs in the summertime. But did you know that they can help with energy costs in the wintertime as well? Find out how!

How it Works

A ceiling fan allows you to circulate your warm air throughout the house more evenly. Warm air rises, so a ceiling fan will force all that warm air that’s not helping anybody way up on your ceiling to come down to you. All you need to do is reverse your fan’s motor and put the fan at a low speed. Make sure the fan runs clockwise as most blade pitches are at an angle that will help it push the warm air down.

When you install your ceiling fan, keep in mind the sources of heat during the winter. Obviously the primary purpose of a fan is to cool down a room. But try your best to choose an area of the room that is conducive to both cooling and heating. Look for where your heat vents and other sources of heat, such as fireplaces, are located. If you can find a spot that allows your fan to cool down the important areas of your room as well as take advantage of heat sources, you will be able to save on energy all year long.
